Matthew Finch – Ivy’s Dream Song

Rate this station

A friend of mine asked if I’d write a song for my new-born daughter Ivy.

I’m not great with soppy daddy stuff so came up with a fun song about the adventures kids must go off on when dreaming.

C F. C. C. F. G
Where do you go when you close your eyes? Will you swim down in the sea?
F. C. G. Am
Will you hide with the turtles, swim round and round in circles?
F. G. Am. F. G. C
Will you bring something back for me? Will you bring something back for me?

Chorus
F. Fm
Maybe I’ll go with you, explore the seven seas.
G. E/G#. Am. D7
Maybe join them jungle monkeys swinging through the trees.
C. G/B. Am. D7
If you jump across the oceans or talk with chimpanzees,
C. G. C
Will you bring something back for me?

What will you see when asleep, you’ll be? Do you float up to the moon?
Will you jump onto Jupiter, pretend that you’re a space creature?
Oh I hope you’ll come back soon. Oh I hope you’ll come back soon.

Chorus

Where do you end up when your dreaming, pup? Do you sail to Timbuktu?
Did you ask for directions from a penguin selling pensions?
Oh I hope you’ll take me too. Oh I hope you’ll take me too.

Chorus

F. C. G. Am
Oh you’ll drift off to dreamland, have all the fun that you can have,
F. G. Am. F. G. C
But I hope you’ll be back soon. Oh I hope you’ll be back soon.
