“As the title may suggest, I wrote this one in August of 2020. There was so much going on in the world that influenced this song. For one, fire season in California was well underway and it felt like so many people I knew were either under evacuation watch or close to it. Secondly, as the pandemic continued on, I was starting to see people’s relationships deteriorate. Family members, close friends, colleagues- there was so much miscommunication, misinformation, and general anxiety that a lot of people were throwing their hands up and ending relationships. Scorching the earth as it is. A summer of protests against police brutality and extreme political unrest also caused emotions to run high. I tried to capture a bit of this tension, but also the emotional rollercoaster that was that period of time.”
