Entry of the Gladiators (Thunder and Blazes) The Classic Circus Music

Can a piece of music be too successful for its own good? Well, that appears to be the fate of Entry of the Gladiators, also known as Thunder and Blazes. It was written around 1899 by Julius Fucik (how do you like that spelling?) who was a popular Czech composer. His name is pronounced Foo-chick. It is impossible to not think of the circus during this music just as it is impossible not to think of The Lone Ranger during The William Tell Overture. Incidentally, the pianists named on the roll “Addison and Gordon” are made up names. Probably it was Frank Milne and Rudolf Erlebach.
